About me

I spent 11 years in Slovakia and completed schools at all levels. This gave me an excellent knowledge of the language in terms of lexis, grammar and usage in various contexts and situations. In 1988, I graduated from the Conservatory in Bratislava in the violin class. In 1993, I started studying Slovak language and literature at the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University in Bratislava. In 1999 I passed the state exam and obtained my master's degree. I gained my first experience as a translator working at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Institute in Warsaw. I translated correspondence, diplomatic notes, international agreements, and legal and economic texts. I also provided interpreting services. My translations were accepted and evaluated as precise. Since 2000, I have been cooperating with translation agencies in Poland and abroad.

I provide standard and specialized translations from Slovak into Polish, from Polish into Slovak, and from English into Polish and Slovak. I have translated documents on a wide variety of subjects. These have included texts from such fields as philosophy, ethics, literature, music, law, economics, technical sciences, medicine, marketing and others. In my work I use SDL Trados Studio and the best dictionaries of the Slovak language. I enrich my knowledge through self-education and participation in various forms of training courses. I completed Postgraduate Studies in Social Communication and Media at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Postgraduate Studies in Library Science and Postgraduate Studies in Pedagogical Preparation for Teaching English at the University of Warsaw. I improved my English at language courses organized by the British Council. I passed the FCE exam and obtained the University of Warsaw Certificate of Proficiency in English at the B2 level. My professional career is related to education.

ORIGIN AND HISTORY

SLOVAK LANGUAGE

It is spoken by approximately 6 million residents in Slovakia and by inhabitants of Vojvodina, an autonomous district in northern Serbia. It is the official language in Slovakia and Vojvodina. Slovak language belongs to the group of Western Slavic languages and is related to Czech and Polish. It derives from the Proto-Slavic language. The first attempt to codify Slovak was made by Anton Bernolák on the basis of its Western Slovak variant. In the 19th century, Ľudovít Štúr codified Slovak literary language on the basis of the Central Slovak dialect. In the history of Slovak, we distinguish the following periods of its development: Bernolak's (1787-1845), Štúr's (1846-1852), Reformist (1852-1863), Martinian (struggle against Hungarian influences) (1863-1918), Interwar period (1918-1940) and Contemporary period since World War II.
