COMENIUS UNIVERSITY
History
Comenius University celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019. The thirteen faculties offer the opportunity to study humanities, social and economic sciences, pedagogy, law, natural sciences, medicine, and theology, among others. In 1919 Comenius University was named after Jan Amos Comenius (1592-1670), a Czech humanist who became famous for his works in the field of pedagogy (e.g., "Didactica Magna" 1638).
Faculty of Arts of Comenius University in Bratislava has been in existence since 1921. I graduated from the Department of Slovak Language and Literature in 1999.

Department of Slovak Language
At the Department of Slovak Language and Theory of Communication and the Department of Slovak Literature and Literary Studies of Comenius University teach prominent personalities in Slovak linguistics, Slavic, literary and cultural studies. Slovak language studies at the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University play an important role in the education of foreign Slovak linguists.
At present, the Department of Slovak Language and Theory of Communication is headed by Prof. Oľga Orgoňová, CSc. (stylistics, lexicology, linguistic pragmatics). Under the supervision of Prof. Juraj Dolník (currently Professor Emeritus specializing in semantics, general linguistics, linguistics with orientation to translation/translation theory, pragmatics, linguistic methodology) I wrote and defended my master's thesis "Metaphor in Slovak and Polish lexis".
